Insects from the order Hemiptera are commonly called true bugs. They can be as small as Aphids or as large as Shieldbugs, but they all possess piercing mouthparts adapted for sucking the juices of plants and other animals.
Shield bug nymphs go through five 'moults' (instars) throughout the summer, as the bug outgrows its exoskeleton.
