There is only 1 species of red damselfly in Ireland.

Dragonflies & Damselflies are essentially aquatic insects, spending most of their lives underwater as predatory nymphs. Some species can even grow large enough to eat small fish. Eventually they crawl out of the water to shed their skin, becoming flying insects, and laying their eggs back into the water after mating.

There are 4 metallic-green species in Ireland, 2 of which are shown here.
